Changelog

What changed in each desktop release, described the way you'd notice it — newest first. The web app deploys continuously and has no versions of its own, so nothing here applies to it.

0.1.7 — 2026-10-14

New

  • Favorites. Star a file and it appears in the new Favorites view of the Local sidebar, next to Edited by me, the files you changed in the app, newest first. Star the open file from the toolbar, drag favorites to put them in your order. A pinned folder does not limit either list. See Sidebar and folders.
  • A welcome panel on first launch introduces local Markdown files, helps you pick a notes folder and shows whether Context Raven opens your .md files. Four one-time hints point out editing, versions, change highlighting and copying. See Getting started.
  • Send Feedback from the Help menu or your profile menu, with screenshots if you want.
  • Delete a snapshot from a file's version history when the file is not in Git. See Versions and Git.

Changed

  • Search matches a file name word by word (ai bootcamp finds ai-bootcamp-marketing.md), and a content search finds files with any of your words, the ones with the whole phrase first. See Search and filters.
  • Markers beside the scrollbar sit where the scrollbar thumb is when their change is on screen. Markers too close to tell apart become one marker; click it again to go to the next change ("Change 2 of 3").
  • Hovering a tab previews it the way the active tab looks. The flat file list in the sidebar is called Recent.

Fixed

  • A note renamed or moved outside the app keeps its history and its tab when its content shows it is the same file, instead of appearing as missing next to a new file. This works on Windows too, also for Git files with Windows line endings.
  • Text you type while switching files is never dropped, and the file you asked for last is the one that opens.
  • A block of HTML the editor cannot reproduce exactly is kept as you wrote it. Change it through Edit source; saving no longer rewrites it.
  • Locate accepts a file another program is still writing, and Pull no longer warns about changes that are not there.
  • A file that starts with a byte order mark (BOM) keeps its first heading a heading, and the mark is kept on save.
  • Numbered lists written as 1) keep the ).
  • Export proposes a file name without .md (alpha.md → alpha-<date>.pdf).
  • Code inside a link looks like the link instead of a highlighted change.

0.1.6 — 2026-10-10

Changed

  • Searching your folders uses much less memory. The app no longer keeps every file's text in memory: a content search reads the files from disk when you search. Typing in the search box stays responsive even in large folders. See Search and filters.
  • Search results show where each file lives, and a file whose name is exactly what you typed comes first. A single letter matches only words that start with it, the same as in the cloud.
  • A folder that you empty on disk keeps its place in the tree, and empty folders made outside the app appear in it.
  • Returning to the window no longer re-reads folders that have not changed on disk, and an outside change no longer redraws the note you are reading.
  • PDF and Word export load only when you export, so the editor loads less code when it opens.

Fixed

  • Restore file brings back the note's last known text. It used to write an empty file when the note had been deleted outside the app while it sat in a background tab. If the app has no copy of the text, it no longer offers Restore and points you to the Trash. See When a file goes missing.
  • Files with an upper-case extension, such as README.MD or data.JSON, are tracked.
  • A search with no results says "No files match your search" instead of showing the folder tree.
  • Copy for LinkedIn pastes plain text and keeps the blank lines.
  • On Windows, a middle click on a file or a tab no longer starts mouse-wheel scrolling.
  • The hint in an empty document sits above the formatting toolbar, never under it.

0.1.5 — 2026-10-04

New

  • Document tabs. Open several files side by side in tabs above the document. ⌘+click, a middle click or Open in New Tab in a file's menu opens a new tab; ⌘T, ⌘W, ⌃Tab and ⌘1–9 open, close and switch tabs. Each tab keeps its own Back and Forward, and your tabs come back after a restart. Drag a tab to reorder it, or move a focused one with ⌘⇧←/→. With many tabs, the mouse wheel and the small ‹ › arrows scroll the row. See Document tabs.
  • Exclude files and patterns. Folder Settings is now Exclude Settings, and a rule can be a file or a pattern such as *.json, besides a folder. A file's menu has Exclude from watching, which asks first. Excluding the file you have open closes it, the way Close Note does. See Folder watch.
  • Pull repository. A folder inside a git repository has Pull repository in its menu: it brings in new commits when that is a plain fast-forward, and never merges or touches your uncommitted work. See Folder watch.
  • Pin a folder. Pin one tracked folder to show only its files in the "Last changed" list. See Sidebar and folders.
  • Links follow renames. Renaming or moving a file updates the links to it in your other notes. See Rename, move and trash.

Changed

  • Images have an Expand button in their corner, in reading mode and in the editor, and images in the editor look the way they do in reading mode.
  • Drop-down lists look the same everywhere in the app.

Fixed

  • A file that another program rewrites with the same content no longer shows up as changed or adds empty versions to Compare Versions.
  • Saving keeps your lists exactly as written: hard-wrapped and nested task items, items that only look like checkboxes, and links with no destination.
  • In an HTML dashboard, table-of-contents links scroll to their section, and a full-height dashboard no longer grows or scrolls twice.
  • The Google sign-in page has a clickable Open Context Raven link.
  • On Windows, uninstalling stops before deleting anything when a file is still in use.

0.1.4 — 2026-09-24

New

  • Interface zoom. View → Zoom In, Zoom Out and Actual Size (⌘=, ⌘-, ⌘0) make the whole window larger or smaller, from 50% to 200%. The size is remembered after a restart and is separate from the text size of the document. See File menu.
  • Tick tasks while reading. Click a task's checkbox in reading mode to tick or untick it; the file is saved straight away. See Reading and editing.
  • Links between folders. [[Note]] now finds a note in any of your folders, not only the one the link is in, and [[Note#Heading]] opens the note at that heading. See Markdown syntax.
  • Search filters in the sidebar. @shared, @html, @yaml and @json narrow the search to shared files, HTML files, YAML files or JSON files. See Search and filters.
  • File icons in colour. YAML files are teal, JSON gold and HTML blue, in the sidebar and in your cloud notes.
  • Renames in Compare Versions. When two versions differ only because the file was renamed or moved, the comparison says so. See Compare versions.

Changed

  • The app opens with your last Markdown note. An HTML or data file you had open last is skipped.
  • Close Note, Move to Trash and Remove from Recents now open your next most recently changed note instead of leaving the window empty.
  • The wide layout toggle moved to the document header, right after Edit file, so it is always in view. It is hidden on phone-sized windows. See App interface.
  • After you jump to a heading inside a note, Back takes you to where you were in that note first, and only then to the previous note.
  • The @yaml filter finds YAML data only, no longer every note with frontmatter, and the @skill filter is gone.

Fixed

  • In an HTML dashboard, a link to a section of the same page now scrolls there instead of leaving the dashboard.
  • A Markdown file can no longer run code in reading mode through HTML written into it.
  • View last changes no longer flickers when you switch back to the app, and it now shows a change made inside a task list item.
  • In the dark theme, an enlarged diagram now sits on the same background as the diagram itself.
  • On Windows, the View menu no longer shows zoom shortcuts that did nothing when pressed.

0.1.3 — 2026-09-23

New

  • Wide layout. A toggle at the top-right corner of the document switches it between the centred column and the full width of the document area. The choice is remembered. See App interface.
  • Help → Context Raven Documentation opens this manual in your browser. See File menu.
  • HTML files in the sidebar. .html and .htm files in a tracked folder are listed and open read-only inside the app, rendered with their own styling and scripts. See HTML files.

Changed

  • Wide tables can now use the whole width of the document area, minus the normal margin, instead of stopping well short of it on a large screen. See Tables.
  • A folder you add to the sidebar now lands at the end of your folders instead of somewhere in the middle.

Fixed

  • In a Git-tracked file, clicking a version number in the version rail now shows that version, instead of opening a comparison.
  • On a file with no uncommitted changes, the version rail no longer shows a number for a commit that does not exist. The newest commit is the file you are editing. See Versions and Git history.
  • A click inside the expanded frontmatter panel now offers to edit it, the same as a click in the document.
  • When comparing versions, the change markers now sit beside the scrollbar, as they do in the document, instead of on top of it.
  • On Windows, installing a new version over an existing one no longer fails when the installer's default "Uninstall before installing" option is left on.
  • Looking at a commit that only renamed a Git-tracked file no longer shows the whole document as added. A rename that also edited the file now shows just that edit. See Versions and Git history.

0.1.2 — 2026-09-21

New

  • Check for Updates… in the File menu, so you can look for a new version without waiting for the app to notice on its own. The app also now checks again periodically while it stays open, not only when it starts. See File menu.

Fixed

  • The window's title bar now follows your light/dark theme instead of staying stuck on whatever the system theme was when the window opened. See Settings and preferences.

0.1.1 — 2026-09-21

Fixed

  • On Windows, an update could finish reporting the new version while the app kept running the old one underneath. Updating now waits until the previous version has actually closed before installing.

0.1.0 — 2026-09-21

The first public release. Context Raven's desktop app is an offline Markdown editor for macOS and Windows: open a folder or a single file, edit, and it saves as plain Markdown on your disk, no account required. See Getting started.

Having trouble loading?

The app seems stuck. This can happen after an update. Clearing the cache should fix it.
