File menu
Everything you can do with the currently open file, from the menu bar.
Items
- New File (⌘N) — opens the same picker as the sidebar's New File: choose a folder and subfolder, or type a new subfolder inline.
- Open… (⌘O) — opens a file picker.
- Open Recent — your last 10 opened files; each row has its own Remove from Recents. There's no Clear Menu.
- Edit File / Reading — switches between reading and editing. No keyboard shortcut; ⌘E is taken by inline code instead.
- Save (⌘S)
- Save As… (⇧⌘S)
- Rename… — renames the file, its
<name>.assets/folder if it has one, and every link that points to it, all as one operation. - Move to Trash — only for a standalone file, one opened
without a tracked folder. A file inside a tracked folder uses the trash icon in the top bar
or its row menu instead; both of those also handle
.yamland.jsonfiles. - Reveal in Finder
- Check for Updates… — asks whether a newer version has been released, and tells you either way. Context Raven also checks on its own, when it starts and every few hours after that, so this is the button for when you'd rather not wait. If an update is found it downloads in the background and nothing is installed until you click Restart to update.
- Close Note (⇧⌘W) — puts the note away and opens the next most recently changed Markdown file, the same one at the top of the sidebar's "Last changed" list. Only when there is no other Markdown file to open does it land on the empty editor.
- New Tab, Close Tab, Next Tab, Previous Tab and tab positions — see Document tabs.
- Close Window (menu only; ⌘W closes the last tab’s window)
Existing file-row menus in the tree and Last changed list offer Open, then Open in New Tab. Rows without another file action keep no menu. Flat name/content search groups use Cmd/Ctrl-click or middle-click to open a new tab. Open in New Tab activates an existing tab when that file is already open.
Context Raven opens one window at a time; there's no Open in New Window.
View menu
- Zoom In (⌘=) / Zoom Out (⌘-) / Actual Size (⌘0) — scales the whole window: sidebar, toolbars, headers, and the document together, from 50% to 200%. The same value is shown and resettable from Settings (see Settings and preferences), and it's remembered for the whole app, not per window or monitor. It's separate from the document font size: interface zoom scales the font size's own text too, but never changes the font-size preference itself.

Context Raven Documentation — opens this manual in your default browser.
When items are dimmed
File-scoped items — Save, Save As, Rename, Move to Trash, Reveal in Finder — are dimmed with no file open, on a cloud workspace view, and while a dialog is open. Close Note is dimmed when there is no note on screen, and on a file that has gone missing from disk, where leaving would discard text no copy has. Check for Updates…, Context Raven Documentation, and the View menu's zoom items aren't tied to a file, so they stay available everywhere except while a dialog is open.
See Rename, move, and trash for the same actions from the sidebar.
