YAML and JSON files
.yaml, .yml and .json files sit next to your Markdown, and the app lists and opens them too.
How to reach it
Open a tracked folder in the sidebar; data files appear in the tree alongside Markdown files and open the same way — click to open.
Viewing
A data file opens in a read-only viewer with syntax highlighting. There is no editor instance for it, so the app can never rewrite its bytes. The top bar carries the same controls as a Markdown file's header — search, copy, download, move to trash, breadcrumb, font size — but there is no reading/editing toggle, since there is nothing to edit.
Find
The in-document find bar (⌘F or ⌘K) works in data files the same way it does in Markdown, including the match counter and the rail markers on the right edge. See Find in document. A single match can span differently colored syntax tokens on the same line.
Versions
Data files get the same version history as Markdown: Git commits for a file inside a repository, automatic snapshots otherwise, and the View last changes highlight rail — marking changed keys and values by their raw byte ranges rather than by rendered content. See Versions and Git history and View last changes. Comparing two versions of a data file shows only the source views (no rendered view, since there is nothing to render).
What is excluded
Machine-written JSON — lock files and *.tsbuildinfo, for example — and dot-prefixed files are
excluded from the tree entirely; the app never lists or opens them.
Limits
- No editing, renaming, or Save/Save As for
.yaml/.yml/.jsonfiles. Move to Trash, Reveal in Finder and Copy File Path still work. - No reading/editing toggle, since the file is always read-only.
- The app never reopens a data file when it starts — launch always restores the last Markdown file, the same as for an HTML file.
